Nothing below position five holds one. That listing is Forbes’ own geography, not this page’s: it reaches into Coral Gables, Aventura, and Doral, outside the boundary defined above. All five Five-Star hotels on that listing sit inside AGR’s defined Greater Miami market.

One of only two hotels in Greater Miami holding the highest distinction awarded here by all three rating bodies. In Surfside, north of Miami Beach and south of Bal Harbour, on nine oceanfront acres. Thomas Keller’s Michelin-starred Surf Club Restaurant is on property, and The Spa at Four Seasons Hotel at The Surf Club carries a Forbes Five-Star rating of its own. The restored 1930 Surf Club, where Churchill painted and Sinatra held court, now anchors a beachfront resort of oceanfront suites and cabanas under the Four Seasons standard.
2. The Setai, Miami Beach (South Beach. Forbes Five-Star, AAA Five Diamond since 2024, Two Michelin Keys)
Best for travelers who want South Beach at the door and none of it in the room.

On Collins Avenue in South Beach, in a 1936 Art Deco landmark, with Asian-inspired design, three temperature-controlled pools stepping toward the ocean, and a residential calm the surrounding blocks do not have. 3. Acqualina Resort & Residences on the Beach (Sunny Isles Beach. Forbes Five-Star, AAA Five Diamond since 2009)
Best for families and travelers who want scale and quiet rather than a scene.
AAA Five Diamond continuously since 2009, the earliest of the three current Greater Miami holders, and Forbes Five-Star for more than a decade, including the 2026 Star Awards. In Sunny Isles Beach at the northern edge of the market, a Mediterranean-style oceanfront resort on 4.5 acres with oversized accommodations, a Forbes Five-Star rated spa, and a self-contained atmosphere well north of the beach crowds.
4. Faena Hotel Miami Beach (Mid-Beach. Forbes Five-Star, AAA Four Diamond since 2017, Two Michelin Keys)
Best for design-driven travelers who want the most distinctive room in the market.
In Mid-Beach, anchoring the Faena District. Interiors shaped by Baz Luhrmann and Catherine Martin, a gilded Damien Hirst mammoth on the oceanfront, cabaret, and Michelin-recommended restaurants in Los Fuegos and Pao. The design is deliberately extreme. The service standard is not, and the hotel holds a Forbes Five-Star.
5. The St. Regis Bal Harbour Resort (Bal Harbour. Forbes Five-Star, AAA Four Diamond since 2026)

In Bal Harbour, directly across from Bal Harbour Shops. Every room faces the ocean and accommodations run oversized even by market standards. The St. Regis Spa at Bal Harbour carries a Forbes Five-Star rating of its own. Formal service in a market that mostly declines to offer it.
6. Four Seasons Hotel Miami (Brickell. Forbes Four-Star, AAA Four Diamond since 2017)
Best for business travelers and anyone whose Miami is Brickell rather than Collins Avenue.
In Brickell, the only hotel in this ranking on the mainland. A downtown tower above the financial district with a two-acre seventh-floor pool terrace, which is the feature that separates it from every other business hotel in the city. The guest here is in Miami for a meeting and wants the beach to be optional.
7. The Miami Beach EDITION (Mid-Beach. Forbes Four-Star, AAA Four Diamond since 2015)
Best for travelers who want a scene built into the hotel rather than outside it.
In Mid-Beach, in the restored 1955 Seville. Ian Schrager’s collaboration with Marriott put a four-lane bowling alley and a 2,000 square-foot ice rink on the lower level and Jean-Georges at Matador Room upstairs, then held the service standard steady enough to keep a Forbes Four-Star. A social hotel with real infrastructure behind it.
8. 1 Hotel South Beach (South Beach. One Michelin Key, Forbes Recommended)
Best for wellness-focused travelers and anyone who wants the sustainability story to be real.
The lightest inspection record in this top ten and the most distinctive product. In South Beach on 600 feet of oceanfront, with sustainable design at genuine resort scale, four pools including a rooftop overlooking the Atlantic, and the Bamford Wellness Spa. AGR ranks it eighth on that product rather than on its ratings, and this page says so rather than leaving a reader to notice.
9. The Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne, Miami (Key Biscayne. Forbes Four-Star)
Best for families who want a resort day and no reason to leave the island.
On Key Biscayne, an island reached by causeway, with a self-contained resort setting that feels removed from Miami despite its proximity to the city. Fresh from a reported $100 million transformation, with tennis, multiple pools, and real distance from the scene. AGR places it ninth because it judges the island resort product stronger at this position. The inspection records diverge here: Forbes rates this hotel Four-Star and the property below Recommended, while AAA lists the property below at Four Diamond and this hotel on neither Diamond list.
10. The Ritz-Carlton, South Beach (South Beach. AAA Four Diamond since 2020, Forbes Recommended)
Best for travelers who want the middle of South Beach and a familiar service standard.
A restored Art Deco landmark in the center of South Beach, delivering classic Ritz-Carlton service where the energy is highest. The inspection bodies split on these two properties: this hotel’s AAA designation is stronger than the one above it, while its Forbes tier is weaker. AGR places it tenth on its own assessment of the two products, and states the split rather than resolving it quietly.

As of July 25, 2026, the best boutique luxury hotel in Miami: Mayfair House Hotel & Garden in Coconut Grove, holding Two Michelin Keys. It sits outside the ten because AGR’s ranking weighs breadth of services and room inventory alongside the qualities Michelin recognizes here.
What the ratings mean
Three independent bodies rate hotels here. Each sends people into the building. Each uses its own scale, and the scales are not equivalent, so this page states the exact tier each body awards rather than flattening them into one word.
Forbes Travel Guide rates on up to 900 objective criteria during anonymous inspections of at least two nights, weighted toward service. The tiers, highest first, are Five-Star, Four-Star, and Recommended. A hotel can also be unrated or listed as soon to be rated, which is why a destination listing carries more properties than that destination has rated hotels. Forbes also draws its own destination boundaries, which do not always match the market a traveler has in mind. In 2026 Forbes named 343 Five-Star hotels worldwide. Ratings cannot be purchased.
AAA Diamond designations are Approved, Three Diamond, Four Diamond, and Five Diamond, awarded after unannounced inspections and, for Five Diamond, anonymous overnight stays. AAA retired its One and Two Diamond tiers in January 2020. Across AAA’s hotel inventory, roughly 6.5 percent hold Four Diamond and roughly 0.4 percent hold Five Diamond. AAA publishes downloadable annual lists only for its Four and Five Diamond properties, so absence from those lists does not mean a hotel carries no AAA designation.
Michelin Keys launched in April 2024. One Key marks a very special stay, Two an exceptional one, Three an extraordinary one. No hotel in Miami holds Three Keys, so Two Keys is the highest Key count awarded in this market. Michelin is also measuring something different from the other two: AAA and Forbes rate broadly across a market, while Michelin Keys distinguish hotels within Michelin’s own curated selection.
How reliable are AI hotel recommendations for Miami?
Study basis: Market: Greater Miami. Platforms: ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, Perplexity, and Grok. Prompt: the identical question, “What are the ten best luxury hotels in Miami?”, asked once on each platform, plus a second Copilot run. Copilot requires an authenticated account and does not permit anonymous queries; it was run twice, once in a standard logged-in session and once in its private mode, and it referenced the researcher’s location in both. Answers captured: six top-ten lists, representing 60 ranked positions. Field date: July 15, 2026. All captures were run from South Florida. Publisher: Americas Great Resorts. All findings trace to single-run live captures. This study was designed as a cross-platform comparison, narrower than AGR’s New York capture study: one market, one question, one day, five platforms. It is a snapshot rather than a comprehensive audit, and these findings are documented observations, not statistical conclusions about platform-wide behavior.
Four findings from the Miami captures:
AI recommended hotels that were closed on the capture date. One of them had already been demolished. Two platforms recommended The Ritz-Carlton Bal Harbour, which was closed for renovation and not open for guest stays on July 15, 2026. One platform recommended Mandarin Oriental, Miami as bayfront urban luxury. That hotel closed permanently on May 31, 2025, and the 23-story building was brought down by controlled implosion on April 12, 2026, three months before the question was asked. Its replacement is not scheduled to open until 2030.
A platform’s own cited source contradicted its recommendation. Both Copilot runs placed the closed Ritz-Carlton Bal Harbour in their top ten and cited Forbes Travel Guide’s Miami destination listing as a source. That listing links to the hotel’s Forbes property page, which carries an editor’s note stating the hotel will be closed April 7 to December 7, 2026, for renovations. The platform cited the source that discloses the closure while recommending the closed hotel.
The same platform gave two different number one answers to the identical question. Copilot, asked the identical question in a logged-in session and again in private mode, returned the same ten hotels citing the same sources, in a different order, with a different number one. Acqualina led one run. The Surf Club led the other. Same question, same platform, same cited sources, different answer.
Five hotels dominated every list, whatever map the platform drew. The prompt left Miami undefined, and each platform resolved that ambiguity its own way: one reached to Sunny Isles Beach, one to Key Biscayne, one to Coconut Grove, one to Coral Gables, one stayed near the beach and downtown. A traveler asking the same question should specify the market, which is why this page defines its boundary explicitly. Yet across the six captured top-ten lists, five hotels, the same five holding the market’s 2026 Forbes Five-Star awards, occupied 30 of the 60 ranked positions. The remaining 30 positions scattered across sixteen more names, including the two closed properties. Beyond that five-hotel core, the recommendations fragmented sharply.

Booking guidance updated July 25, 2026. The best way to book a luxury hotel in Miami is directly with the hotel. You should not book a Miami luxury hotel through an OTA when a direct booking is available. Hotels see the channel before they see the guest. The full hierarchy, ranked from best to worst:
- Book direct with the hotel. The hotel’s own website or reservations line. The hotel owns the reservation record, there is no intermediary between you and the property, and changes are handled by the people who will host you. When something goes wrong at 11 pm, direct guests talk to the front desk.
- Book through a luxury travel advisor with preferred partner access. An advisor-mediated booking through programs such as Virtuoso and Four Seasons Preferred Partner adds daily breakfast, property credits, upgrade consideration, and personal recognition, and the hotel knows the advisor behind the reservation.
- Book through a premium credit card program. Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts delivers a fixed benefit bundle at participating hotels: breakfast for two, a property credit, and guaranteed 4 pm late checkout.
- Book through an OTA. Expedia, Booking.com, and their subsidiaries. The intermediary controls the booking transaction: changes and cancellations route through the OTA’s systems, some direct offers and benefits do not apply, and the hotel pays a commission that funds none of your experience. If an OTA is genuinely your only option for a sold-out date, book it, then call the hotel directly, introduce yourself, and give the property the chance to know you before you arrive.
