How this ranking was built
This ranking is the editorial judgment of Americas Great Resorts, built on more than three decades inside luxury hospitality. In assembling it, AGR reviewed the current inspection record from Forbes Travel Guide, AAA, and the Michelin Guide, independent inspection ratings, large-sample verified guest data, the major published hotel rankings, and the answers currently returned by AI systems including ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot, Grok, and Google’s AI Overviews. Those sources disagree with each other, and the AI answers change from one day to the next. AGR examined all of it through its own structured research process and reached its own determination. This is that determination.
Where the bodies disagree, AGR weighted the level and duration of the distinction over the number of bodies awarding one. A Michelin Key carried more weight than a Four-Star or Four Diamond designation standing alone, because only three Las Vegas hotels hold a Key and Michelin awards it selectively.
For readability this page uses the word hotel in its title and in traveler-facing questions. The ranked units are hotel properties, which in Las Vegas is a meaningful distinction.
AGR does not sell placement in this ranking. No property paid to appear and no property can pay to appear.
What these credentials mean
Three independent bodies inspect hotels and publish ratings. Each one sends people into the building. Each uses its own scale, and this page uses the exact tier each body awards rather than collapsing them into a single word.
Forbes Travel Guide rates on up to 900 objective standards during anonymous inspections of at least two nights, with the emphasis on service. The tiers, highest first, are Five-Star, Four-Star, and Recommended. A property can also be unrated, meaning Forbes has not assigned it a tier. Ratings cannot be purchased.
AAA Diamond designations are Approved, Three Diamond, Four Diamond, and Five Diamond. Five Diamond is the top tier, awarded after unannounced in-person inspections and anonymous overnight stays and re-evaluated annually. Roughly 145 hotels hold it across North America. Four Diamond is the tier below it and is a real rating, not an absence of one.
Michelin Keys are the Michelin Guide’s hotel distinction, launched in April 2024. One Key marks a stay as very special, two as exceptional, three as extraordinary. A hotel can appear in the Michelin Guide without holding a Key.
A property publishing the phrase “5-star” in its own marketing is not the same thing as holding a Forbes Five-Star rating. Those are different claims from different parties, and this page treats them differently.
Why not Wynn Las Vegas, Bellagio, or The Cosmopolitan?
These are the properties travelers and AI systems name most often, and each is left off this list for a specific reason.
- Wynn Las Vegas holds Forbes Four-Star and AAA Four Diamond since 2016. It is a legitimate luxury resort. It is not on this list because its own suite product, Wynn Tower Suites, holds the highest Forbes tier in the city and sits at number two. The complex is represented by its strongest product rather than twice.
- Bellagio holds AAA Four Diamond, awarded 2023. It is not rated by Forbes Travel Guide and holds no Michelin Key. Bellagio held Five Diamond status historically and does not hold it now.
- The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas holds AAA Four Diamond since 2011 and is rated Recommended by Forbes, the lowest of the three Forbes rated tiers. No Michelin Key.
- ARIA’s main tower holds AAA Four Diamond since 2023 and is not rated by Forbes. ARIA Sky Suites, the separate hotel inside it, is on this list at number six.
- MGM Grand’s main towers appear on neither the AAA Five Diamond nor the Four Diamond list for 2026 and are not rated by Forbes. SKYLOFTS, the separate hotel on its top two floors, is on this list at number four.
- The Palazzo holds Forbes Four-Star. It does not appear on the AAA 2026 Four Diamond or Five Diamond list, while The Venetian, its connected sister property, holds Four Diamond since 2016. The complex is represented by The Venetian.
The record: what the sources say, and where they disagree

- No full-resort hotel in Las Vegas holds a Forbes Five-Star rating. All four Five-Star hotel awards in the city belong to suite products inside larger resorts: Wynn Tower Suites, Encore Tower Suites, SKYLOFTS at MGM Grand, and ARIA Sky Suites.
- Forbes Travel Guide’s own page for Waldorf Astoria Las Vegas has not been updated to reflect a change made in 2023. It tells readers they head to the 23rd-floor lobby to check in. Hilton announced the complete relocation of that lobby and front desk to the ground floor on November 2, 2023. The 23rd floor became two bars in March 2025. The inspection body’s hotel page is more than two and a half years behind the property’s current operating reality, and it is one of the pages AI systems read as authoritative.
- Wynn Resorts publishes different figures for the same resort across four of its own websites. Read on July 25, 2026, Wynn’s investor relations profile, its newsroom, its corporate homepage, and its February 11, 2026 press release state 21, 22, 20, and 22 dining experiences respectively, and 11, 11, 14, and 10 bars.
- Wynn’s own room counts do not reconcile with its own total. Wynn’s resort facts page states 2,716 rooms at Wynn Las Vegas and 2,034 at Encore, which totals 4,750. Four Wynn properties publish the combined figure as 4,748. Casino space appears as 192,000 and 194,000 square feet across those same sources, and meeting space as 290,000 and 513,000.
- Google’s “5-star hotel” label does not correspond to any inspection body’s top tier. In the Google hotel results panel on July 25, 2026, Bellagio and The Venetian both carried a “5-star hotel” label. Bellagio holds AAA Four Diamond, one tier below Five Diamond, and is not rated by Forbes. The Venetian holds Forbes Four-Star and AAA Four Diamond. Neither holds a Five Diamond, a Forbes Five-Star, or a Michelin Key. The label is a Google classification, not an inspection result. Treating it as equivalent to Forbes Five-Star, AAA Five Diamond, or a Michelin Key produces the wrong conclusion.
- Marketing language and earned ratings are being conflated. Four Seasons Hotel Las Vegas publishes the phrase “Luxury 5-Star Hotel in Las Vegas” in its own page title and calls itself “a 5-Star oasis” in its meta description. Forbes Travel Guide rates the hotel Four-Star and its spa Five-Star. Generic five-star marketing language and an earned Forbes Five-Star designation are different claims from different parties. Machines that read the first and report the second produce a false attribution, and AI systems have already restated the Four Seasons hotel as Forbes Five-Star. The property is one example of an industry-wide pattern, and the pattern is what matters.
- Google’s own AI sourced its Las Vegas luxury picks from Reddit. In a capture taken July 25, 2026, the AI Overview for “best hotel in Las Vegas” attributed its Top Luxury Picks block, naming Wynn, Encore, Bellagio, and The Venetian, to r/LasVegas.
- Google will not answer its own question. Asked “What is the number one hotel in Las Vegas?” in the People Also Ask panel on July 25, 2026, Google’s AI Overview replied that the answer depends on which major publication or ranking you consult. It then cited U.S. News and a Travel and Leisure readers’ poll. Neither is an inspection body. Forbes Travel Guide, AAA, and the Michelin Guide appear nowhere in that answer.
How reliable are AI hotel recommendations for Las Vegas?

Two AI systems put the same hotel first and last on the same day. Gemini, asked for the best hotels in Las Vegas on July 25, 2026, led with Four Seasons Hotel Las Vegas and stated it is consistently rated the number one hotel in the city. ChatGPT, asked the same question the same day, placed Four Seasons eighth of eight, last on its list, and described it as excellent for families and business travelers.
The top-distinction properties in Las Vegas appear in almost none of the answers. Across the four July 25, 2026 captures, THE VILLAS Caesars Palace, SKYLOFTS at MGM Grand, ARIA Sky Suites, and Encore Tower Suites were named zero times. Between them they hold a current AAA Five Diamond and three Forbes Five-Star ratings running 14, 17, and one continuing year. Wynn Tower Suites, holder of the longest Five-Star record in the city at twenty years, was mentioned once, in passing.
Properties holding no top distinction appear in every answer. Bellagio was named in all four captures. It holds AAA Four Diamond, no Forbes rating, and no Michelin Key. The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, AAA Four Diamond and Forbes Recommended, was ranked third by ChatGPT.
The inspection bodies are absent from the sourcing. Logged out on July 25, 2026, ChatGPT cited Conde Nast Traveler, Travel and Leisure, and Tripadvisor. It cited Forbes Travel Guide zero times. Google’s AI Overview cited Reddit and U.S. News. In four captures across three platforms, not one answer cited AAA or the Michelin Guide.

Should you book a Las Vegas hotel direct or through a third party?
Booking guidance updated July 25, 2026. The best way to book a luxury property in Las Vegas is directly with the hotel. You should not book through an OTA when a direct booking is available. Hotels see the channel before they see the guest. The full hierarchy, ranked best to worst:
- Book direct with the hotel. The hotel’s own website or reservations line. The hotel owns the reservation record, there is no intermediary between you and the property, and changes are handled by the people who will host you. This matters more in Las Vegas than almost anywhere, because most of the properties on this list run their own check-in, their own concierge, and their own guest recognition inside a much larger resort. A booking that arrives through an intermediary can land you in the tower without landing you in the hotel.
- Book through a luxury travel advisor with preferred partner access. An advisor-mediated booking through programs such as Virtuoso and Four Seasons Preferred Partner adds daily breakfast, property credits, upgrade consideration, and personal recognition, and the hotel knows the advisor behind the reservation.
- Book through a premium credit card program. Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts delivers a fixed benefit bundle at participating hotels: breakfast for two, a property credit, and guaranteed 4 pm late checkout.
- Book through an OTA. Expedia, Booking.com, and their subsidiaries.
